Consider Flowers for Special Occasions

This year, consider flowers instead of spending endless hours trying to find the perfect birthday present and ending up last minute with another body product.

Receiving flowers, whether as a thoughtful gesture of appreciation or a birthday present makes one feel incredibly special.

Consider a Flower Delivery Service
A fresh, colourful surprise of flowers, hand delivered to the recipient?s door with a personal message will make them feel extra spoilt, especially if the flowers are delivered at the office in full view of colleagues.

There are various birthday flowers that are assigned to the months of the year in each country according to availability. It is recommended to send seasonal flowers that are local and fresh to make the birthday special.

Zodiac or Birth Flowers:
Zodiac flowers refer to specific flowers allocated to signs of the Zodiac and also birth month flowers, for example Lily of the Valley for May. These are a popular and a convenient choice to order from an online florist.

The flowers corresponding to months of the year and their specific meanings in the Northern Hemisphere are as follows:

January – Carnation for fascination.
February – Violet for virtue.
March – Daffodil for new beginnings.
April – Daisy for innocence.
May – Lily of the Valley for complete life.
June – Rose for love.
July – Delphinium for an open heart.
August – Gladiolus for remembrance.
September – Aster for love.
October – Calendula for grace.
November – Chrysanthemum for friendship.
December – Poinsettia for celebration.

The flowers assigned to specific months are in bloom at that time of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, and are thus readily available.

Flowers for birthday milestones
Major birthday milestones recognised globally are 18th, 21st, 50th, 60th, 75th and 100th birthdays. Each milestone presents its own themes relative to life and the accomplishments which are experienced at these stages. Sending flowers on these milestones is a universal tradition.

An 18th birthday is an extremely momentous time for any young adult transcending the pathway to adulthood. In certain countries, once 18, a person is legally of age to drive a car, vote and marry (amongst

other things). This is a time of celebration for many as they progress into adulthood.

In some countries, a person is only legally considered an adult once they have reached their 21st birthday. 18th and 21st birthdays present a day where the person coming of age is showered in gifts and cards and has some of the most exciting celebrations hosted in their honour.

A 50th birthday milestone marks the beginning of middle age as well as having reached half a century in age. At the age of 50, a new era begins in a person?s life. This era is the beginning of a life of a little more peace and leisure, children leaving home and breaks away from the hustle and bustle of life are sure to follow soon.

The age of retirement is generally accepted as 60 years old but the average age of retirement is actually 65. A person?s 60th birthday is important as it marks the end of the work-era and the start of a life of relaxation. The hard work and effort throughout the years finally pays off after a 60th birthday when a person?s retirement can be enjoyed in peace.

When a person reaches the age of 75, they have reached the coveted milestone of their life.

Birth Month Flowers – Personalizing Your Hand-made Crafts, Cards and Scrapbooks

Birth Month Flowers – Personalizing Your Hand-made Crafts, Cards and Scrapbooks
By Scott Henderson

Wondering how you can make your hand-crafted birthday card, scrapbook page or gift more personal? Consider the language of flowers. Every calendar month and every sign of the zodiac has its patron flower. With that as a beautiful starting point, your creativity can soar.

Birth-month Flowers

According to tradition, each month’s flower represents the qualities of a person born during that month. Many of these meanings have their origins in antiquity. During Roman birthday celebrations (which were excuses for lavish gift-giving), flowers were often given that were meant to symbolize how the recipient was viewed by the gods. The Victorians brought this “language of flowers” to a high art, where flowers represented not only a person’s qualities, but could also carry a specific romantic message depending on its type and color. A bouquet or arrangement could easily result in mixed messages.

Crafting, card-making or scrapbooking with birth-month flowers has an added benefit: they are often in full bloom during the celebration, so you can accompany your card or craft with a live bouquet!

Start with your flower in any form; silk or other artificial flowers; pressed flowers; photos or illustrations; rubber stamps; even flower seeds. You might try hand-drawing for a very personal touch. You can also research and write a poetic reflection on the qualities of the flower or be prosaic and give instructions for growing them. The colors of the flowers can set the palette for your card or craft.

The traditional birth-month flowers are:

January, Carnation or Snowdrop;
February, Violet or Primrose;
March, Daffodil;
April, Daisy or Sweet Pea;
May, Lily of the Valley or Hawthorne;
June, Rose;
July, Larkspur;
August, Poppy or Gladiolus;
September, Aster or Morning Glory;
October, Calendula;
November, Chrysanthemum; and
December, Holly or Narcissus.

Horoscope Flowers

If you are more inclined toward the celestial, you can choose the traditional flowers of the astrological horoscope. These tend toward the more uncultivated field or wild flowers. Again, let your creativity lead you on how to use them.

The traditional flowers of the horoscope are:

Capricorn, Ivy, Pansy, or Amaranthus;
Aquarius, Hydrangea or Orchid;
Pisces, Orchid or Water Lily;
Aries, Honeysuckle or Thistle;
Taurus, Rose, Poppy or Foxglove;
Gemini, Honeysuckle or Jasmine;
Cancer, Geranium or Water Lily;
Leo, Sunflower or Marigold;
Virgo, Buttercup or Forget-Me-Not;
Libra, Rose;
Scorpio, Geranium or Honeysuckle;
Sagittarius, Dandelion or Begonia.

I hope these ideas make your next card, scrapbook or craft project blossom!

A Monthly Guide for Picking Perfect Birthday Flowers

A Monthly Guide for Picking Perfect Birthday Flowers
By Natalie Aranda

Flowers are the preferred birthday gift of most individuals because they are beautiful, cheerful and natural. Different months of the year have corresponding flowers, much like birthstones. This monthly guide is a great way to surprise the birthday girl or boy with a beautiful bouquet of flowers especially for the month of their birth.

January is the snowdrop and carnation; February the primrose and violet; March the violet and jonquil; April flowers are the daisy and sweet pea; May represents lily of the valley and hawthorn; June is the rose and honeysuckle; July the water lily and larkspur; August represents the gladiolus and poppy; September the Morning Glory and Aster; October the Marigold; November, chrysanthemum; and December birthday’s the Poinsettia and Holly. Remember, the monthly guide to flowers provides a basis for picking out flowers for a man or a woman, but other flowers are appropriate as well depending on whether you are buying them for a family member or the love of your life.

It was my mom’s birthday back in summer 1998. I was in London and she was in Birmingham. I decided to head to the internet. Typing in “flowers London”, then “florists Birmingham”, I found the perfect flowers for her birthday. The flowers can be ordered online from London and sent to Birmingham, and would arrive early next morning.

Regardless of whose birthday it is whether man or woman, son or daughter, husband or wife, girlfriend or boyfriend, flowers are always an appropriate and thoughtful gift that will be appreciated immensely.
